Blog 8- Personal Development Reflection
As of the last choreographic session we have made great progress. We have choreographed the whole piece, filling in the 30 second gap in the middle of the piece and bringing the solo to a close at the end through storytelling and with the use of our motif of ‘covering the eyes’.
Choreographing at home and bringing our ideas to each other during the studio time has allowed us to overcome the obstacle of not being able to hear our music well in the studio surrounded by other groups as well as alleviating the time constraint.
Throughout this week I plan to make sure that the choreography blends seamlessly with the music, making use of all the highlights, lowlights and dynamic changes in the music as well as starting to rehearse the dance as a solo which can be challenging during the lesson.
As we fine tune the piece, we plan to develop personal nuances in the piece to make it our own and unique from each other, as well as develop the storyline and intention behind the piece which the choreography is so closely linked with.
During the beginning phase of our journey, we were establishing the connection between our group and learning how each person moves uniquely. We have used this to create a piece that reflects all of our character and ideas.
Through learning about Ohad Naharin and his choreographic style, we have integrated elements inspired uniquely by him into our piece such as the 3/4-point en l’air. His choreography is so distinctive, and we have learnt a lot through running with ideas. We have continued to choreograph without the aid of a mirror however, going forward I do plan to use this as a tool (as well as video) to discover how the audience may view our work.
