Blog 6- Reflection
As of this week, we have choreographed 50 seconds of our piece. I am pleased with the choreography that we have done so far, as it flows continuously and takes weight placement into consideration.
As we all have different ideas to contribute, we have not created as much content as we would have like to at this point. Due to the limited time, we have decided to each create 30 seconds of choreography each to be discussed and changed as necessary next week. We hope to have done 2 minutes 30 seconds by then.
After our teacher observed our piece, we received practical feedback which will help us to improve our solo. We were advised to take a closer look at the music; the highlights and lowlights and where movement could be drawled out and stretched. Our teacher felt as though we were rushing the music. I suppose this is because in our minds we were ‘creating fast movement to slow music’ however the music didn’t agree with our decision. I think it is a good lesson that we cannot hold onto an idea too long if it isn’t working, it is okay to change the vision and the narrative as the choreographic process is fluid.
I plan to go home and listen to the piece again in a quiet environment to really grasp the nuances of the music and how we could seemingly blend the solo with this, as ultimately, we as dancers are supposed to be interpreting the music.
Not only this, but that we could really focus on stretching out the travelling section on diagonal. When performing and practicing this alone I will really focus on making my movements vast and ‘stepping out’ as much as possible so as to move much further, adding dynamic to the solo.
